About Pennine Chimes
Barbershop is unaccompanied or ‘a capella’ singing for four distinct parts.
- Lead is usually the melody line of the song and around which the other parts sit.
- Bass is the lowest part forming the solid foundation for the song.
- Tenor is almost always above the melody.
- Baritone takes the notes which when added to the others makes up the unique sound of Barbershop.
Because barbershop was initially a male hobby, even as ladies, we still maintain the same names for the four parts.
What next?
We hope you feel you would like to come again and that you have received a friendly welcome. Please feel free to ask us any further questions in the break time – we all love what we do and are very happy to chat about it – we don’t take much asking!
Would you like to look at the wider Barbershop family? Go to www.labbs.org or www.labbs.co.uk. If after today you think you would like to have a sing, (and you are a lady of course) you can join us for rehearsal for a few weeks trial and see how you go. Just have a chat with Cath or Kim – you too could be part of Pennine Chimes and those amazing harmonies!
For the Gents
There are men’s choruses around the country too – the web site www.barbershop.org.uk or www.singbarbershop.com
